I promissed to send patches to a few people for testing with Vista as client.
I figured it would be much better to just post them publicly and let anyone test, who has the time.
So please, test them. You can even test them, if you don't have Vista: In that case, nothing should change.
It applies to current cvs:
tng/source$ wget http://download.samba-tng.org/tng/patches-for-cvs/vista-rpcbind-cumul.diff tng/source$ patch -p1 <vista-rpcbind-cumul.diff
If you find, that it changes something for non-vista clients, please make sure, that it is really the patch (un-apply it, test again) and also report.
I'm looking forward at your reports!
i know, you had this patch ready for ages ... but i've been quite busy in the last months.
so i hope it makes you happy that i'm now running samba-tng cvs from today with vista-rpcbind-cumul.diff applyed on our (production) pdc...
... so if the patch causes trouble then we should know soon.
can you explain me what the vista-rpcbind-cumul.diff should improve in terms of vista compatiblity?
so i can install a vista box somewhere and test ...
Without the patch, in our tests, vista was not able to connect to TNG-as-fileserver at all. (just trying to connect in explorer to get/put a file).
With the patch, at least this works in our testing.
As it's a deep patch, we really need the testing.
So: Many thanks for testing!!
> As it's a deep patch, we really need the testing.
okay, with areas are touched by this patch?
i mean, where can problems arise? may it affect only fileserver functionality, or may it also cause problems in other areas?
until now, i heard no complains that something is not working.
but, i think, we will see in the next day's, if there is anything wrong or broken by this patch.
Areas touched: Anything related to RPC. The base rpc-connection server side has been rewritten heavily.
(as in mail) This might in theory affect the xp-joining problem you had on tng-with-patch and did not have on tng-without-patch.
But I don't think, this really was the problem of the xp-join. It feels strange.
what do you propose, how should we continue with vista testing?
should i patch vista-rpcbind-cumul.diff on top of our tng-cvs from 30.4. (you know, it has also fix-classic-3.2.5.diff applied),
and see if there are problems arising with domain joins (you know, in a quick test, i had problems joining the domain sometimes,
i tried joining an xp client, first it worked, second try, i got an rpc error, ...) and so i removed the patch temporary until we
worked out the problems with Samba 3.3.2/3.2.5 ...
Simon finally tested this patch heavily in his environment. It seems to work fine with all other client versions.
It has been commited.
